National Park

In 1960 the north-western part of the island became a notional park which includes two beautiful salt lakes surrounded by thick pine woods which seem to be growing out of the sea and the little Island of St. Mary situated in the heart of Great Lake with a Benedictine monastery from the 12 th century. The Polace Bay is the best natural harbour in the whole of the Adriatic and it is also famous for 4th century Roman palaces

Babino Polje

The center of the rest of the island, no less beautiful, is Babino Polje with the Ulysses' Cave and the beautiful coast of the southern Sutmiholjsko Bay, and eastwards the Harbour of Sobra, the main harbour of the island from where Mljet is connected with the mainland.

Blace Bay

The beautiful sandy beaches, Blace Bay and the Sage of Saplunara which are washed by the cleanest sea, stretch in the far south-east where the nature once again surprises us with its wonderful creation of so much beauty in such o small area as the island of some 100 square km. The area is also famous for the remains of the Church of St. Paul who - the legend has it - was beached there during his journeys.
